Eagles Sign Mike Bell to an Offer Sheet

Eagles signed restricted free agent RB Mike Bell to a one-year, $1.7 million offer sheet with $500,000 guaranteed. The Saints will have seven days to match the offer. Based on the low tender and Bell’s disappointing finish down the stretch last year, the Saints will likely decline to match the guaranteed money. The 27-year-old would provide a physical, inside complement to LeSean McCoy in Philly.

Updating a previous item, free agent LaDainian Tomlinson left Vikings headquarters without a contract Thursday evening. Tomlinson told SI.com’s Jim Trotter that he had a positive meeting with the Vikings, but he will follow through on his visit to the Jets Friday, explaining that he hasn’t been recruited since high school.

The Shanahan era in Washington has begun

Washington Redskins and Mike Shanahan have agreed in principal to a five-year, $35 million contract that will make him their head coach and executive VP of football operations. Ex-Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has agreed to become the Chiefs new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. He’ll reportedly be named Kansas City’s new playcaller “within the next 24-48 hours.”
The fit is logical because Weis’ offense is virtually the exact same as coach Todd Haley’s, right down to the no-huddle heavy aspects. The [...]

Kellen Clemens gets the nod this Weekend

Coach Rex Ryan announced Wednesday that Kellen Clemens will be the Jets’ starting quarterback in Week 14. Mark Sanchez’s PCL sprain will cost him at least one game. The Bucs usually present a favorable matchup for passers, but Clemens is always a good bet to struggle.
