This Sunday was a great day of football, with a lot players having big days. There was some big surprises and some guys putting up big numbers against good defenses. Some defensive guys also had big weeks and I hope you played the right players in your fantasy pools.

Ben Roethlisberger - Pittsburgh played in the Sunday night game again this week and “Big Ben” Came to play. Roethlisberger is off to a good start this year, but week 5 was his best showing of the season. Against a good defense in Jacksonville, Ben put up 309 passing yards and threw for 3 touchdowns. With a QB rating over 100 and completing 65 percent of his passes Roethlisberger definitely had a great week. The Steelers are off to a 4 -1 start and a lot of that has to do with the great play of Ben. If he keeps up this pace, the Steelers might be heading for a Super Bowl appearance.

Kurt Warner - The Cardinals pumped the Bills on Sunday and the big story is that Warner didn’t turn the ball over. At times it looked as if he could move the ball at will. He had a massive QB rating of 107 and threw 2 touchdowns. Warner even managed to rush for 10 yards and didn’t fumble the ball. He completed an amazing 78 percent of his passes and led Arizona down the field on every possession. With Warner playing this good, the Cards are a playoff team and one of the best offenses in the NFL.

DeAngelo Williams - Out of no where the Panthers running back put up 123 yards on the ground averaging over six yards a carry. He found the end zone twice the ground and received another. Williams showed how bad the Kansas City defense really is and I am sure he will get rewarded with more carries in the future. Williams had only 7 career touchdowns heading into this week and scored three in one game.

Ronnie Brown – The new Miami offense seems to agree with Brown. He put up 125 rushing years in week 5 averaging more then 5 yards a carry. In the past 2 weeks Brown has more then 230 yards on the ground and has scored 5 touchdowns. Ronnie is proving that when he is healthy he can be one of the better backs in the NFL. Look for Brown to keep this streak going, Miami’s offense is focused on him and he is performing. A great fantasy player of late, you never know when he will run, catch or even throw a touchdown.

Aaron Rodgers – You would have never known that Rodgers has a shoulder injury and was questionable for his week 5 start. He torched Atlanta’s D with 313 yards and 3 touchdown throws. He had a QB rating of 109 and averaged over 8 yards per throw. A lot people questioned whether Aaron was an NFL starting QB, so far it looks like he might be a pro bowl QB. Rodgers was hurt, but he started and played great for Green Bay.

Peyton Manning – If you used an early pick to get Manning you probably aren’t very happy about his early season production. The bye week should get him more healthy and he should improve his production. He has only thrown 3 touchdowns this years, against 4 picks not exactly Peyton like numbers. Relax he will get better as he gets more healthy, by the end of the year his numbers should be fine.

Brian Westbrook – Westbrook has been hurt and missed last weeks game, but he wasn’t that good in the 3 games he played. He has only rushed for 160 yards so far, but if he gets healthy, he will be back to his old self. Look for him to get more catches and more touchdowns when he is healthy.

Derek Anderson - Fantasy surprise last year, fantasy dud so far this season. A 49 percent completion rate and 540 yards is horrible for a guy who is supposed to be leading one of the best offensive groups in the NFL. Get rid of Anderson if you can, if he keeps struggling Brady Quinn will be the Quarter Back soon.

Chad Johnson - Name change hasn’t helped much, he is averaging 29 receiving yards a game with only 1 touchdown in the first four weeks. The Cincinnati team looks bad and may not get better. Johnson is a great wide receiver, but I think it is time for the Bengals to start over and find away to get better.

The Ugly :

Tom Brady – The injury to Brady in week 1 had a huge impact on all fantasy football leagues. The Patriots are no where near what they were last years and everyone on there offense will have worse fantasy years then they did last year. I feel bad for you if you drafted Brady in the first round, I hope you got a good back up.

Randy Moss – Directly tied to Brady’s injury, Moss will have a year that is very underwhelming. Last year he was a record breaker and this year he is averaging 65 yards a game with 1 touchdown in 3 games. I don’t know what to tell you, maybe the Patriots will figure out a way to get him the ball, they will if they want to win.

Braylon Edwards – WOW, what a start !! All pro last year, and this year he has 11 receptions and 95 yards in 4 games. This makes no sense to me, he was one of the best fantasy receivers last season and it looks as if he may be the worst this year. Edwards is a great player with all the talent in the world, and his numbers cannot be explained.

Fantasy sports can be highly frustrating, if you were one of the people to pick a ton of Patriots thinking they will repeat success, I feel for you. Hopefully you have found some good sleeper players this year and remember that you can turn a fantasy season around in just one week,

In a naming contest, a team of Boston sportswriters decided to keep the history of the area alive calling their franchise the “Patriots”. The Patriots played in the first ever regular season AFL game on September 9, 1960 losing to the Denver Broncos 13-10. The Patriots finished the first season with a 5-9 record. The Patriots would improve over the next three seasons posting back-to-back 9-4-1 seasons and in 1963 finished tied for first place with the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots first playoff game came against the bills which they won 26-8. In the AFM Championship game the Patriots were dismantled 51-10 by the San Diego Chargers. The following season placekicker and wide receiver Gino Cappelletti was named the AFL Most Valuable Player. Cappelletti became the AFL’s all-time leadier in points scored with 1,100. In 1966 another Most Valuable Player came form the Patriots in fullback Jim Nance who lead the league in rushing twice in 1966 and1967.The Patriots would play in many different locations including Fenway Park, where the Boston Red Sox baseball team plays, Boston University Field, and in Harvard. The Patriots finally made their home at 70,000 seat Foxboro Stadium in 1971.

As the 1960′s and 1970′s went forward little success came around for the Patriots with a new low in 1970 with a 2-12 record. The Patriots would once again reach the playoffs in 1976 but would lose to the Oakland Raiders 24-21. The Patriots would make their first Super Bowl appearance against the “Monsters of the Midway” Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XX. The game was rout and the Bears won 46-10. The 1990′s for the Patriots saw them rise again to meet the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI. The Packers would end the Patriots hopes again to a championship defeating them 35-21.

The Patriots first Super Bowl win came against the heavily favored St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI with a 20-17 win. The second Super Bowl victory two seasons later against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII in another thrilling game with the Patriots winning 32-29. The next season provided the Patriots with the same result winning Super Bowl XXXIX against the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21. The Patriots would make a Super Bowl trip in Super Bowl XLII against the New York Giants but lost 17-14. The Patriots were on the verge of going undefeated with a 19-0 record and do something that hasn’t been done since the 1972 Miami Dolphins, finishing a season undefeated. That year several NFL record were broken when the Patriots set the all-time scoring record in a season with points scored with 589, Tom Brady throwing fifty touchdown passes, and Randy Moss catching twenty-three touchdown passes.

Since 2001, the New England Patriots have won the AFC East seven times, four Super Bowl appearances, back-to-back 14-2 regular seasons, and a 16-0 regular season. Its safe to say that the New England Patriots are the team of the decade.

The Vikings made an immediate impact in the NFL and there was barely a “growing process” for the 14th NFL franchise. The Vikings had good support in among the fans selling out 85% of their home games. The Vikings has success very early on when then, future Hall of Fame player quarterback Fran Tarkenton, established himself as one of the all-time great QB’s being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986.

Tarkenton was a nine time Pro Bowl selection, won the 1975 Most Valuable Player award, and has 342 career touchdown passes. During a thirteen year period the Vikings won eleven NCC Central titles and NFC Championships in 1973, 1974,a dn 1976. The Vikings would go on and win the NFL Championship in 1969 defeating the Cleveland Browns 27-7, only 8 years after its inception. The Vikings would play in three Super Bowls in the 1970′s, Super Bowl VII losing to the Miami Dolphins 24-7, Super Bowl IX losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-6, and Super Bowl XI losing to the Oakland Raiders 32-14. The Vikings never won a championship in the Super Bowl era but that doesn’t take away from their very successful beginnings.

In 1982, the Vikings moved from the Metropolitan Stadium to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome which held Super Bowl XXVI. The stadium was named after the former mayor of Minneapolis Hubert Humphrey.

In the 1990′s the Vikings continued to be a threat in the NFC Central, now the NFC North, year after year. Another Hall of fame player had his most successful season with the Vikings, wide receiver Cris Carter. Carter is one of the greatest statistical WR’s of all-time being elected to the Pro Bowl nine times, and a member of the 1990′s All-Decade Team.

In 1998, the Vikings had high hopes for their team going 15-1 in the regular season and was the clear favorites to win the Super Bowl. Th Vikings set the then all-time scoring record in a season with 556 points. The Vikings would lose to the Atlanta Falcons on a thirty-eight yard field goal miss by Gary Anderson, who didn’t miss a field goal the entire season. The Falcons would win the game in overtime 30-27 Another wide receiver, Randy Moss, was in his rookie year and made a huge impact on that Vikings team. Moss would set NFL rookie receiving records such as seventeen touchdowns in a rookie season.
