Rice and Smith were first-ballot locks and Jackson is the first player in New Orleans Saints history to be elected.

Former Broncos RB Floyd Little and former Lions CB and current Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau join them as the seniors committee selections. Andre Reed, Shannon Sharpe, Dermonti Dawson, Richard Dent, and Cortez Kennedy made the final 10, only to be eliminated Saturday. Also eliminated were Cris Carter, Tim Brown, Charles Haley, Roger Craig, and Don Coryell.

Elsewhere around the NFL:

Indianapolis: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Dwight Freeney will play in the Super Bowl barring any setbacks in pregame warm-ups. Freeney missed practice again Saturday. For the first time in two weeks, he will test the ankle before the game. It seems likely that he’ll suit up, but the Indianapolis Colts’ best pass rusher will be limited to a third-down role in obvious passing situations. Reliable veteran Raheem Brock will play the majority of the snaps.

Indianapolis: Reggie Wayne is listed as “probable” after leaving Friday’s practice with a tweaked right knee. Wayne “stopped short” while running a pass route, which is sure to infuriate Frank Costanza. He played through the injury to the “fat pad” in his knee for much of 2009. The Colts do not seemed concerned about Wayne’s status for Sunday’s game. He was able to participate in Saturday’s practice/walk-through.

Jacksonville: The Jaguars informed veteran WR Torry Holt and OT Tra Thomas that they will be released next week. Holt, 33, was the Jags’ third-leading receiver in 2009, but he’s devoid of playmaking ability at this stage of his career. Holt played ten seasons in St. Louis Rams before signing with Jacksonville last April. Mike Thomas could ascend to Holt’s starting spot in 2010. Teams can not release players until the Monday after the Super Bowl.

Oakland: The Raiders are reportedly set to hire former Chiefs defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast as defensive backs coach. Todd Haley originally wanted Pendergast to stay on in the same position with the Chiefs, but the two ended up agreeing to part ways. After losing his job twice in two seasons, Pentergast’s days as a coordinator may be over.

St. Louis: Jason Smith will likely stay at right tackle if Alex Barron is re-signed. Coach Steve Spagnuolo has no qualms about playing Smith at left tackle, but Barron is likely to be retained as a restricted free agent in the expected uncapped year. Jason Smith will return at center and Jacob Bell at left guard, but the team will need to find a right guard after releasing Richie Incognito late in the season.

New England: The New England Patriots will not fill their vacant defensive coordinator role for 2010. Instead, coach Bill Belechick will be more involved with the defense and share the workload with his assistants. The Pats parted ways with Dean Pees, who served as defensive coordinator over the past four season, in January. LBs coach Matt Patricia was believed to be the favorite for the open coordinator position but will instead share duties with the rest of the defensive staff.

Not until 1963 did the Bills have the on field success they were looking for ending in a tie for the AFL Eastern Division title. The next two seasons saw the Bills win the AFL Championship defeating the San Diego Chargers in 1964 20-7 and 1965 23-0. The Bills played in a their third consecutive AFL Championship game but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-7. After there very successful beginnings the Bills found themselves at the bottom of the league winning only thirteen games in the next five seasons. After a dismal few years the Bills became competitive once again with running back Orenthal James or better knows as O.J. Simpson.

Simpson was the number one overall pink in the 1969 draft by the Bills and made an immediate impact in the Pro’s. Simpson set the then record for rushing yards in a single season with 2,003 becoming the first player do to so and also winning the Most Valuable Player award. Simpson was selected to the 1970′s All Decade team and elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

As the 1980′s wore on the Bills began to see the makings of a successful team again as in the 1960′s. Quarterback Jim Kelly was selected in the 1983 draft but didn’t start for the Bills until 1986 because he choose to play in the United States Football League. In addition to Kelly in 1988 running back Thurman Thomas was selected. The Bills were on the verge of making NFL history, but not in the ideal way. The Bills would play in four consecutive Super Bowls from 1991-1994 which has never been done before, sadly, losing all. The Bills first Super Bowl appearance was the closest game of all with the Bills losing 20-19, making it the closest Super Bowl ever. The flowwong year the Bills made the second appearance against the Washington Redskins losing 37-24. Thurman Thomas lead the league in rushing that year winning the Most Valuable Player. The Bills lost to the Dallas Cowboys the next two years in games that were not very competitive, 52-17 and 30-13. The Bills were victims of a much better Dallas Cowboy team lead by quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith, and wide receiver Michael Irvin. Appearing in four straight Super Bowl will probably never happen again, or if it does it will be a very long time. What the Buffalo Bills accomplished overall was still very impressive. While the ultimate prize is to win the Super Bowl, appearing four straight times is something to be proud of.

In 1993 the Bills were apart of more history as well beating the Houston Oilers in overtime in the AFC Wild Card game coming from thirty-two points down to win 41-38. What is more remarkable about that victory is that it was won with the Bills backup QB Frank Reich when starting QB Jim Kelly suffered ligament damage to his knee.

Over the last decade the Bills have had little to be happy about making the playoffs one once in 1999 losing to the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card game. The Buffalo Bills play in the AFC East with the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots have dominated the division the last ten years. The Buffalo Bills are long over do for more success like they had in the 1990′s.

The Cowboys have been to eight Super Bowls (more then any other team) winning five of them (tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers all-time). Unlike many other National Football League franchises the Dallas Cowboys have a brief history, but a very rich one. With their creation in 1960, the Dallas Cowboys have a winning traditional and have become know as the “Americas Team”. The blue star on their helmet represents success, pride, and honor to be a Dallas Cowboy. The Cowboys were the team of the 1990′s winning three Super Bowls out of four years and obtaining the most wins in the decade.

The Cowboys were in Texas but had the image of a Hollywood star, no pun intended. Being a Cowboy was a glamorous one at that with the entire football world focused on the players, even more if they were winning. The Cowboys are not just another NFL team but a high profile institution. The saying is, “Everything is bigger in Texas.” They sure live up to that saying by promoting their players as much as they can but also maintain the basic principal of winning. They were always looking to enhance their image to bigger and better lengths. Being a quarterback on the Cowboys wasn’t just another position on the team, it meant you were given the national spotlight and had to live up to the reputation set by previous Cowboy greats. Even cheerleading for the Dallas Cowboys is considered to be a prestigious honor above all other NFL teams.

There have been countless Hall of Fame players who wore the star such as Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Coach Tom Landry. Tom Landry has the third most all-time wins among NFL coaches with 270. There are currently ten Hall of Fame players who dawned the Cowboy name which included, Troy Aikman, Tont Dorsett, Tom Landry, Mel Renfro, Tex Schramn, Bob Lily, Roger Staubach, Michael Irvin, Randy White, and Rayfield Write. Emmitt Smith who played with the Cowboys from 1990-2002 winning three Super Bowls with fellow teammates Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin, is the all-time leading rusher in NFL history with 18,355 rushing yards. He also leads all running backs with 175 total touchdowns and is a member of the 1990′s All Decade Team.

The Dallas Cowboys don’t retire numbers but place the names and number in the Ring of Honor to commemorate the players and honor them for their contributions.

While the Cowboys a tradition of winning, their last playoff win came in 1996 when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX 27-17. Despite not having won a playoff game in over a decade the Cowboys are one of the most valuable franchises in all of sports being estimated at over $1.6 billion. When the Dallas Cowboys are successful the rest of the NFL becomes even more successful. They are the team fans either love or hate and rarely is there a middle ground. With very competitive rivals in the NFC East who include the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins, the Cowboys are frequently in the eyes of many NFL teams as the team to beat especially within the division.

The blue star is one of the most famous symbols in American sports and when the Cowboys are winning, that blue star shines even brighter.
