Rogers Arrested for Gun Possession

Browns president Mike Holmgren will take no action on Shaun Rogers’ gun possession arrest until the legal process runs its course. No charges have been filed yet, though Holmgren’s statement Thursday served to confirmed that this was not an April Fools story.

Tomlinson Signs with the Jets

Jets agreed to terms with RB LaDainian Tomlinson on a two-year, $5.2 million contract. Another $500,000 is available via incentives. Tomlinson, 31 in June, does give the Jets another option at the goal line, but his addition is probably more of a threat to Leon Washington’s 2010 total touches than Shonn Greene’s.

Ravens Sign Derrick Mason

The Baltimore Ravens have signed WR Derrick Mason to a two-year, $8 million contract, including $3.5 million in the first year. Astutely, GM Ozzie Newsome didn’t settle after acquiring Anquan Boldin. Mason is 36 now, but remains a highly effective possession threat, has missed just one game since 2002, and upped both his YPC average (13.0 to 14.1) and TDs (5 to 7) last season, indicating his body isn’t letting him down yet. While his numbers are likely to drop with Boldin as the Ravens’ new clear-cut No. 1 wideout, Mason’s return is exceptional news for Baltimore’s offense.

Browns Trade for Wallace

The Cleveland Browns have acquired QB Seneca Wallace from the Seahawks in exchange for undisclosed compensation. The move, likely involving a late-round pick, reunites Wallace with Browns president and ex-Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren. It also paves the way for Derek Anderson’s release.

Third-Round Pick could Land Boldin

According to NFL Network’s Mike Lombardi, the Cardinals’ asking price for Anquan Boldin is a third-round pick. While Boldin is going on 30 and would likely require a pricey multi-year commitment, Arizona’s demands appear to be plenty reasonable. Fellow trade candidate Brandon Marshall is roughly four years younger, but presents far more knucklehead factor, would ask for more money, and costs a first-round pick. The Cards will find plenty of suitors if Lombardi’s report is true.

McGahee to Remain with the Ravens

L Network’s Jason LaCanfora reports the Baltimore Ravens are committed to keeping Willis McGahee despite his $3.6 million salary in 2010. The Ravens want to keep McGahee around as insurance for and a complement to Ray Rice. The 28-year-old flourished in the backup role, averaging 5.0 YPC with a career-high 14 combined TDs. McGahee will [...]

Vick will be an Eagle Longer than Originally Thought

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that the Eagles may hold off until the preseason to trade Michael Vick. While this theoretically makes sense because teams would get more time to evaluate Vick after watching him in exhibition games, it would also cost the Philadelphia Eagles. Vick is due a $1.5M roster bonus on March [...]

Browns Cut Stallworth

The Cleveland Browns have released WR Donte’ Stallworth. He didn’t last 24 hours on the offseason roster after being reinstated from his one-year suspension Monday morning. Stallworth is still only 29, but was completely ineffective the last time he played, catching just 17 balls for 170 yards and a single touchdown in 11 games opposite [...]

Pete Carroll Headed to Seattle

The L.A. Times reports that the Seahawks are closing in on a five-year, $35 million agreement with USC head coach Pete Carroll that will make him both the team’s head coach and club president, similar to the deal that Mike Shanahan signed earlier in the week. . No deal has been signed and Seahawks beat [...]

Eric Mangini to remain the Browns Head Coach

Browns president Mike Holmgren has informed head coach Eric Mangini that he and his entire staff will keep their jobs in 2010. A month ago this news would have been unthinkable, but Mangini managed to save his job with a four-game winning streak in December and by impressing Holmgren during initial team meetings. This will [...]

Charlie Weis to become the Chiefs Offensive Coordinator

Ex-Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has agreed to become the Chiefs new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. He’ll reportedly be named Kansas City’s new playcaller “within the next 24-48 hours.” The fit is logical because Weis’ offense is virtually the exact same as coach Todd Haley’s, right down to the no-huddle heavy aspects. [...]

Westbrook Done Until the Playoffs?

Scout.com’s Adam Caplan believes the earliest return date for Brian Westbrook (concussion) is Week 16. “It’s still less than 50-50 that we’ll see him before Week 17,” Caplan added. Caplan appears to be speculating rather than reporting, but he’s clued in to the Eagles organization. Westbrook did not experience concussion-related symptoms after his latest workout, [...]

Jamal Lewis’ Career Likely Over

The Browns have placed RB Jamal Lewis on injured reserve with “post-concussion symptoms,” ending his season. Lewis, who plans to retire, ends his last season with career lows in total yards (588), touchdowns (0), catches (8), and rushing yards per game (55.6). His 3.5 YPC average was the second lowest of his 10-year career. We’ve [...]

Vince Young Leads Titans to a Comeback Victory

Vince Young completed 27-of-43 passes for 387 yards and one touchdown to lead the Titans to a comeback victory over the Cardinals in Week 12, 20-17. A nearly flawless and improving Young converted three fourth downs, including the game-winning touchdown pass to Kenny Britt, on a 99-yard drive in the two minute drill. Showing impressive [...]

2010 Mock Draft

1. Cleveland Browns – Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska: The Browns should be adding weapons and protection for Brady Quinn, but Suh is too good to pass up. 2. St. Louis Rams – Jake Locker, QB, Washington: The Rams need a young QB and Locker has come a long way in just one season under Steve [...]
