Coach Rex Ryan announced Wednesday that Kellen Clemens will be the Jets’ starting quarterback in Week 14. Mark Sanchez’s PCL sprain will cost him at least one game. The Bucs usually present a favorable matchup for passers, but Clemens is always a good bet to struggle.
Elsewhere around the NFL:
Houston: Texans RB Chris Brown has been named the Houston Texans new starting running back. Arian Foster looks to be his back-up. Ryan Moats has been relegated to third string as of now. Only Brown should be owned at this point but Foster could be an intriguing pick-up if Brown has fumbling issues.
Houston: Texans running back Steve Slaton is done for the season after being placed on injured reserve Wednesday because of a nerve issue in his neck.
Atlanta: Falcons QB Matt Ryan did not practice on Wednesday because of his turf toe, but the Atlanta Falcons believe that he might be able to start this weekend. The game against the Saints would be much more interesting if Ryan was able to play. Even if he does, he is too risky of a start for the fantasy playoffs.
Washington: Redskins Coach Jim Zorn announced Wednesday that Quinton Ganther has taken over as the Washington Redskins‘ starting tailback. Ganther has a favorable matchup as the Redskins will be traveling to Oakland. Rock Cartwright will go back to returning kicks.
Carolina: Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) returned to Panthers practice Wednesday, participating in all phases of the workout. Jonathan Stewart’s one-week stint as Carolina’s every-down back is over. Williams, whose ankle sprain wasn’t severe in the first place, should be close to 100 percent for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.
Detroit: The Detroit Lions will start Daunte Culpepper at quarterback against the Ravens in Week 14.
Coach Jim Schwartz is smartly giving Matthew Stafford the week off to rest his dislocated non-throwing shoulder.
Pittsburg: Pittsburg Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall is listed as probable for Thursday night’s game against Cleveland with an ankle injury. Mendenhall has a great match-up against the 29th ranked run defense of the Browns.
Green Bay: Packers TE Jermichael Finley was limited in Packers practice Wednesday because of a knee injury. Coming off a breakout performance on Monday night, Finley is a TE1 against the Bears this weekend.
