The Washington Post is reporting that Washington Redskins LT Chris Samuels is likely to retire. Samuels, 32, is surely done for the 2009 season due to an aggravation on his spinal condition. Stephon Heyer is now starting at LT, but he is not the permanent replacement.
Elsewhere around the NFL:
Minnesota: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) returned to a complete practice for the Vikings Friday and is listed as probable for Week 7. Peterson, who is averaging 5.2 yards per carry, is on pace for 19 rushing TDs this season.
San Francisco: Coach Mike Singletary informed reporters that Michael Crabtree, Isaac Bruce, and Josh Morgan will all play an equal amount of snaps Sunday at Houston. “When you look at Isaac Bruce, Josh, and Crabtree, they’re all going to play about the same,” said Samurai Mike. “It just depends on how the game goes.” Crabtree should be riding the fantasy bench this weekend, but he is worth a roster spot.
Arizona: Cardinals RB Chris “Beanie” Wells (hip) was limited in Cardinals practice for a third straight day Friday. Wells figures to be active in Week 7, but should not be getting the start considering the Arizona Cardinals are playing the Giants this weekend. The first-round pick’s fantasy value is on the rise, however, and he’s worth owning in all formats.
Oakland: Raiders WR Chaz Schilens (foot) was unable to complete Raiders practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Week 7. Schilens had reportedly looked very good in early-week practices before Friday. Even if Schilens is active on Sunday, he is not considered a good fantasy start.
Washington: Redskins RB Clinton Portis (ankle) missed practice for a third straight day Friday, but is expected to play on Monday Night Football. Portis’ fantasy value continues to fall.
Indianapolis: Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee) is formally listed as out for Week 7. The Colts are hoping that Gonzalez can practice next week and perhaps play in Week 8 against San Francisco 49ers. Gonzalez should be added immediately if he is still available in your fantasy league.
Atlanta: Falcons RB Michael Turner (chest) is listed as probable for Week 7 at Dallas. Turner is a good bet to score against the Cowboys this weekend.
