Browns Eyeing Mike Holmgren?

mike-holmgrenBrowns owner Randy Lerner reportedly has his eye on Mike Holmgren for VP of football operations. Lerner has four other names on his wish list: former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi, Falcons president Rich McKay and former Packers GM Ron Wolf. Holmgren is believed to be the preferred target. The new hire would have full power to make all of the football decisions, which means Eric Mangini isn’t long for the head coaching job.

Philadelphia: Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday that RB Brian Westbrook (concussion) will be out as long as his headaches persist. “I’m not going to stick him out there if he has the headaches, even if the tests were positive,” Reid said. Even though Westbrook was medically cleared to play on Sunday, he is now also battleing an ankle injury and early indications are that he will not play this Sunday either.

Philadelphia: NBC commentator Tony Dungy, who has worked as a personal advisor to Michael Vick, suggested Sunday night that Vick could end up with the Bills in 2010. “I think a dark horse is Buffalo,” Dungy said. “They talked originally. I think that could be a good spot.” He also called the Rams, Washington Redskins and Browns possible suitors. Vick has a team option for 2010 that would cost the Eagles $4.25M to exercise.

Oakland: Raiders RB Darren McFadden was back at Raiders practice on Monday. He has missed the last few weeks with a knee injury. This Sunday is by far McFadden’s best matchup as the Oakland Raiders will host the Chiefs on Sunday.

Seattle: Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck will most likely get Wednesday’s practice off after throwing 51 passes in week 9. “Nothing structurally wrong,” beat writer Danny O’Neil said on his Twitter. “He will play Sunday.” He has a solid match-up against the Cardinals in week 10.

Cincinnati: Bengals placed WR Chris Henry on injured reserve with two broken bones in his left forearm, ending his season. Henry, who had surgery on Monday, was having a bad season. Henry was in the last year of his contract and is slated for free agency in 2010.

Kansas City: Even though the Kansas City Chiefs cut disgruntled RB Larry Johnson, rumor has it that he will be signed by a contending team. This situation is reminiscent of the Patriots signing Cory Dilon.

Green Bay: The Packers confirmed that OLB Aaron Kampman suffered a concussion in Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers. His status is uncertain for Week 10 against the Cowboys. Kampman played the majority of the game with the injury, which was suffered on the contest’s fourth snap. His backup at strong outside linebacker is Brady Poppinga.
