The Chicago Bears aka the “Monsters of the Midway” are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. Since 1920 the Chicago Bears had the working man mentality of hard nose smash mouth football that relates to the city they represent. The Chicago Bears call Soldier field there home which has held their games since 1971, previously calling Wrigley Field home for 51 seasons. They are apart of the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions.
The Bears have produced many great all time football players over their long history including Walter Payton, who was a former holder of the all time rushing record, Mike Ditka who lead the team to a win in Super Bowl XX 46-10 over the New England Patriots, Harold “Red” Grange, Dick Butkus and yes that is his real name, Bronko Nagurski, Gale Sayers, Mike Singletary and future Hall of fame player Brian Urlacher. With those names you know the Bears were a hard hitting football tea. The Bears have a total of 26 Hall of Fame players, a very impressive number.
The majority of the Chicago Bears success came in the first half of the 20th century with a 9-0 win over the Spartans in the first NFL game played indoors in 1932 and defending that title against the New York Giants winning 23-21, four straight NFL Championships appearances in the 1940s including the destroying of the Washington Redskins 73-0.
George Halas was a major factor throughout the Bears history in nearly every aspect. Halas was a coach and one of the founding fathers so to speak of the Bears and accumulated 327 victories in his career of over 40 years.
During the Super Bowl year of 1986, during the season the Bears made a rap music video called the “Super Bowl Shuffle” which grabbed national attention. The Bears defenses in their last Super Bowl win is considered an all-time great. With a record of 15-1, shutting out their opponents in two playoff games and a 46-10 victory in the Super Bowl, that Bears team will be remembered for years to come.
In the 2006 season, the Bears made another appearance in Supper Bowl 41 but lost to the Indianapolis Colts in a rain filled game 29-17. Unlike the Super Bowl team of 1985, this Bears teams wasn’t nearly as dominating, and considered by most to be a fluke to reach the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman as quarterback.
The Chicago Bears have a long tradition of run the ball first and play hard defense. Being the Bears are in a competitive division with the Green bay Packers, it will be difficult for them to gain a large amount of success in the present and near future.
The NFC has been the “weaker” and less talented conference for a number of years and a new team rises up while others fall back down. A season removed from their Super Bowl appearance the Bears are a team that can pile on wins against the far less superior teams within the NFC and sneak into the playoffs, where then anything is possible. When the Bears made their Super Bowl appearance, no one saw that coming, maybe again the Bears can surprise people again.
